Ok, just accidentally wandered onto this site, and it's EXCELLENT!! So impressed told my brother about it. Just a question though. In my family, I seem to be an aberration of sorts; the only one I know of who has the wanderlust. Anyone else having a similar experience of being the only one with itchy feet?

Not me... two of my three other siblings have done some serious travel. My Dad travelled for work throughout most of my childhood... I think you're in a minority. Though I met people travelling whose family also thought them crazy for having wanderlust - so you're not alone 😊

Hey Ali :D. I remember your pic from yesterday. I read a little of your blog. Have a desire to travel to Morrocco lately. My grandma used to call me the gypsy for liking to travel. And actually, if I think about it, it's not so much that I like to travel that they find odd, as much as it is that I'm not old (32), and I do it ALONE :O. I have to say, my favorite trip so far was the time I hitchhiked through Mexico. LOOOOVE Mexico City and love street food. NEVER got sick either. Knock, knock (wood). Oh, the tales I could tell about THAT trip.....(Mexican men not so scary to lone foreign females as we have been led to believe in the U.S.).

P.S. One more question I believe, and then I have to cook supper. In using your laptop in countries such as Mexico, did you have any trouble finding hotspots for wireless use? Mine has the wi-fi card, and wondering how difficult it is to find spots for internet transmission.... Reply to this

Wifi in Mexico... I'm not sure how often you'll find public hotspots (I was there 2002 with an old laptop then) - but you will find cafes that are happy to unplug an ethernet cable and let your laptop loose.

The worst country so far for getting my laptop connected has been greece - last week. Blog coming...

> my favorite trip so far was the time I hitchhiked through Mexico

Wow - in most of Mexico I felt really safe and used pickup trucks sometimes (more or less hitching), but in Mexico City a bit edgy, met people who'd been mugged - and lost everything.

> Mexican men not so scary to lone foreign females as we have been led to believe in the U.S.

I think nearly everything foreign is not as scary as people in the US are led to believe - I blame TV. Reply to this

And yes, I do remember some people in Mexico City who were not as trusting or friendly as out in the provinces, but it really wasn't an issue for me. I do believe Mexican men in general have a respect of sorts for the female of the species. I mean, after all, we could be someone's mother, sister, etc., and they're such family-oriented people. Yes, do have a bias towards Mexicans, lol!! Fell in love with the culture right after high school and then met my former husband. Reply to this

I'm SUCH a chatter box, lol!! In addendum: I MUCH prefer smaller areas to visit. It's just that I had to experience Mexico City at least once. Biggest city in the world, isn't it? Reply to this

hey, i feel you on that. my family always asks me why i would ever want to go to Moscow, and their reasoning is that an exchange student we had over from there said that we had more luxury (aka expensive shit) here, and now they cannot understand why i would still want to go out and see the rest of the world if it's not as comfortable as where we live. It's funny, they view life's purpose as attaining comfort and security, whereas i view it as trying to experience to the greatest extent possible the spectrum of human experience, and i find travel to be the best way of achieving that. My whole family is terrified of the unknown, refuses to learn new things, and is practically afraid of their own shadows. i wonder where the hell i came from. Reply to this

Hi,

I have travelled around Europe and Asia alone and have enjoyed every bit of it...But when I came back to my country India and to my birth place Kerala (Gods Own Country) I realised how little I have seen my own birth place..For the last one year I travelled extensively throughout Kerala and realised what I missed all these years. Any body interested to Visit Kerala contact me and check my website www.ubiquetours.com, a company which I have formed to help travellers around the world to experience the real Kerala..
