Camera Safety

Undecided about which camera to take....
16 years ago, June 20th 2007 No: 1 Msg: #15448
Hi there,

Maybe I've left this a bit late but unable to make up my mind so thought i would post a question about it, any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'm off to South America next week for a 6 month tour starting in Caracas and ending in Beunos Aires. Originally I decided to take my old Canon film SLR - mainly for security (its a piece of crap so if it does get nicked I wouldnt be too bothered), But im so used to Digital now I'm worried that id get back, have the rolls devoloped and all my best shots will be out of focus or under exposed etc. I like my photography and the thought of that really worries me.

I have a digital SLR which is worth around £800 and as much as i would like to take it im a little worried that either it would make me a target for crime or that i would be too paranoid to ever get it out and miss some great oppurtunities.

I guess what i'm looking for here is some experiences of people who have taken a "nice" camera backpacking round SA with them - was it stolen? no problems at all? etc etc

Well I hope to hear back from people
Take it Easy & Thanks in advance

Andy
