I'm going to be travelling around the North and South Island for 4 weeks in June and want to know if I need to book all my accomodation in advance or should I just do it as I go along? I'm travelling with the Magic Bus....I'd ideally like single rooms in hostels or cheap B&b's.
I assume Queenstown is going to be busy as it's ski season? Please help me!
Reply to this I would say book it, even though it's our winter I know in my town - which is rather small but plenty of backpackers etc their beds fill up. But you could wing it and be fine - I think in most places you would find a bed easy. Queenstown you definitely need to book a bit in advance!
Reply to this Ok - think I'll make reservations in advance then! Thanks very much for your reply!
Reply to this I wouldnt bother, is out of season and unless you're going somewhere totally off the road where there is only 1 hostel then you'll be fine. New Zealand is hostel daft!
Reply to this Yeah I think you'll be fine.. I always booked just to make sure, but most places shouldn't be full. Queenstown YHA will possibly be full, they were this time last year. But places like Dunedin and Christchurch have more than one backpackers so you should be able to find a bed.
Reply to this Hey, Last year I went to NZ over winter which was awsome, you will love it. The scenery is breath taking. While it is winter places like Queenstown will be booked out. We had a hard time finding anything and ended up staying in a little boutique that cost a bit cause there was nowhere else. My tip is book before you get there. I used this site
www.newzealand.itchy-feet.com.au to book backpacker hostels and had no problems. A good tip also is that the information centres over there are really good at helping you find accommodation if you get stuck but there can be a lengthy wait to get served. Hope you have a great trip.
Reply to this No booking required this time of year. Relax and pick the spot when you get there!
