I am planning to travel overland as much as possible from Argentina to Mexico-but I have been told that it is impossible to go between Colombia and Panama, I just wanted to know if its safe to get a bus from Quito to Bogota and fly from there, or should I skip Colombia altogether? Reply to this

You can go by bus from Ecuador to the capital, Bogotá. It is one of the best roads. From Bogota you will need to take a flight to somewhere in Central America. Reply to this

Bus service to Colombia is easy, and also safe! If you want to travel to Panama from Colombia: it's also possible(I've done it) take a bus to Turbo, then you get a boat to Capurgana stay a day or so there, then another boat ride to Puerto Obaldia, Panama then catch a small plane to Panama City. It's an enjoyable way of seeing both Colombia & Panama. The other method is via The Darien Gap usually by local indians to Darien, Panama then a bus ride to the capitol. Saladin you seem to know the area well. Are you colombian or you went to live there? If I were to live again in my country, I would go to Medellin. It is beautiful and its people is incredibly friendly. It is a very nice place. Part of my family is from Medellin. Very nice there. Reply to this

I am very glad you like my country. The note I put partaining to safety is generally for all South and even more Central America. Colombia is a lot safer than it used to be. We can now walk with no problems through all the country. Reply to this

I was a gringo living in colombia for two years and can attest to the fact that I never had one problem and the people were always friendly and helpful. I lived in Valledupar and Bucaramanga. I have always been warned that tourists should steer clear of the Darien Gap though, has anything changed with that?

For anyone curious about Colombia or in particular Santa Marta, I have a video on my website For anyone curious about Colombia or in particular Santa Marta, I have a video on my wedsite here. It was taken as part of a package for a visit to tairona park that our son and friend from florida went on. We were all supposed to go, but my wife was sick that morning so dilan and leslie went while nancy and i stayed behind. Anyway, the first half of the video gives a good idea of what the area is like for anyone interested.

Later,

Mark
