How to get to El Calafate and what's the best tour to do whilst there.

Hi Guys,

We're planning a trip to Argentina, flying in to Buenos Aires on the 30th June and flying out again on the 5th July and we'd really like to see the Perito Moreno Glacier whilst we're there.

Has anyone done a good tour which takes us down there, or offer any advice?

So far I've only been able to find Aerolinas Argentinas who fly to El Calafate from Buenos Aires, but they are USD400+ for the flight, which seems pretty expensive, perhaps there's a better way to do this? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Matt. Reply to this

Hi!
I'll fly from BA to El Calafate next Friday with LADE - www.lade.com.ar. It's the cheapest airline here (100 USD one way), but they have a mess with the site. You have to come to their office or call to know the schedule and prices. At the moment they have flights to El Calafate on Fridays and back on Saturdays, which is not so nice....But you can fly back with Aerolineas Argentinas. I think.

Hi Matt,

I would not count on LADE - even Aerolinas Argentinas as the biggest company here sometime do mess up the things... Best price for round trip BsAs-Calafate is around PESO 800 - which is USD 270,-
If you are going to the galcier you have a wide range of tours. You can do the regular tour to the glacier and walk in the area. You can also go for glacier hicking in different locations of the glacier which is highly reccommended. Furthermore you can do boat trips through the rim of the glacier and to other glacier that are in the area.

When ever you want to plan your trip please let me know and I will help you with your individuel itinerary.

Best Regards

Hi Chalten Tours have Perito Moreno Glacier tours, minitreks and other tours in Calafate and the area, they also have a nice website.
Latour, an experienced Latin America operator has an El Calafate - Lago Argentino and glacier tour. It's a three day tour which includes a visit to the Perito Moreno Glacier. Take a look at Enjoy Patagonia too, they have a four day Calafate tour which includes other glaciers besides the Perito Moreno Glacier as well. Reply to this

Thanks all for your replies. In the end we just could make the flights work as we were on such a tight schedule, plus it was in the middle of their winter - next time definitely. Reply to this
