Does anyone have any good suggesstions of where to stay in Rio in July? me and my boyfriend have never been and want to know where the best areas are etc...

Brazil!!, we just chilled there on Copa beach, went to see the favellas and The Christ.. you willhave a great time, hope theres enough info there for you.

Of course there are loads of options. If you are going to chose out of the two main beaches Id recommend Ipanema over Copacabana. I found Ipanema had a better vibe. Stayed at a place called Mellow Yellow in Copacabana first time there - fine if you want to party and not too worried about sleep. Second time stayed in Aproador Palace Inn - far more expensive, but worth it for the location alone.
My recommendation is to spend a couple of days in Rio and see the sights, then head off elsewhere, although we werent too concerned about going out much. Went to Ilha Grande and Paraty which were fantastic. Make sure you catch a football match at Maracaña stadium - even if you dont like football.
