Living in Arequipa
17 years ago, February 18th 2007 No: 1 Msg: #10850
I am going to be living in Arequipa, Peru this summer for a month and a half. I am posting this tread to hear from people who have been to or lived in Arequipa. What do you suggest to do, see, and what are some important things to know. Reply to this

I was in Arequipa for about a week a few weeks ago. It's a cool city. Lots to do, especially at night. Calle San Francisco has a few clubs. Deja Vu and El Forum are both good. They're right next to each other. Speaking of which, Calle SF has tons to do. Lots of good shops, the bookstore Libreria El Lector is amazing. Definitely go to El Turco and its sister restaurant Fez, across the street. Amazing kebabs and Falafel. At El Turco, I must've gone there at least 7 times in the time I was there. Definitely eat at a restaurant overlooking the plaza de armas, it's worth it. Check out El Mercado, where you can get fresh juice and other food for cheap. The Monastery is pretty cool, but it's expensive to get in so it might not be your thing. Check out the Mirador overlooking the city. If you like hiking, definitely go to Canon del Colca. You can organize a 2 day trip from Arequipa for cheap, around 25 US, although when you go it'll be the high season so probably more expensive. if you don't like hiking, you can take a bus tour of the area. Either way, it's worth it. Beautiful. But I can imagine the bus tour would be a little ¨lame¨ That's about all that comes to mind now, good luck have fun Reply to this

Arequipa Peru was one of my favourite tows in Peru. I got to only spend two days there but the last day I was by myself and I felt so safe walking around.

I didn't go to the colca canyons but my friends did and they all enjoyed it. I would highly recommend doing that. We stayed in a hostel just around the corner from the monastery which was great. very near the action and theya rranged tours.

I can't remember names so I shall post again later when I have my diary with me. That way I can give names but suffice to say I loved it. Antoher thing I really loved about the place was that it had indian restaurant. It was vegetarian I believe. Hara Krisnah but it excited me to see some other cusine in South America. Reply to this
