My girlfriend and I have just booked our trip to South America, we leave on March 7th and hope to spend 6 months away, starting in Rio and flying out of Peru. We can't wait to go but was wondering how far our money would go, I know it all depends on what we and how we travel ECT, but a rough guide would be very helpful

it really depends how you want to travel and if you want to eat out or live on snacks. We are travelling South a Central America for 6 months and our budget is around £3000 pp for the 6 months. As we are couple, we are staying in double rooms and until now we were able to eat out a lot. We didn´t have to restrict ourselves too much and did~´t have to eat hot dogs on a dialy basis. However, we need to watch our spending as water, internet etc are adding up. In some Coastal towns prices are similar as in Europe e.g £1.5 for 1 hour internet. In general, accomodation, food and bus travel is really cheap, but you might have to calculate for extras as guided tours etc. How much have you calculated? Have a great trip! Michaela
