Great Barrier Reef

We are moving on to Australia in the next couple of weeks and would like to book a few days so we can see the Great Barrier Reef.

Has anyone any suggestions for how long we should stay at the great barrier reef? Also, where is the best place to stay? Is it on one of the islands? I have never dived before and would also like to learn how to dive any suggestions on companies to do this with and approximate costs.
Sorry for all the questions never been to Australia before.

Hi,

You can stay on one of the Island...some are amazing...but all are very expensive....and the good diving is nowhere around the "hotel" island...

Best diving is while on a liveaboard...you can go for 3 days....my advise, the Spoilsport of Mike Ball. Do the short 3 nights trip if you have never dive.

Not much to advise you out of Cairns....

Be ready for sky high prices...the AUD is....high! Reply to this

Thanks for this information. I know sky high prices is putting it mildly especially after we leave Vietnam! Thanks once again

If you are up around Cairns there are some really lovely land sights - such as Port Douglas, Mossman Gorge, Daintree River to the north Barron Falls and the Waterfall Circuit on the Atherton Tablelands to the west.

Avoid anything for the last week of September, it is Queensland school holidays and prices will increase accordingly. First week of October could be interstate holidays, so prices still might be slightly inflated. After that, things should return to normal. Reply to this
