Yesterday, I went shopping, only to discover that it was a shops closed day in Germany.
2 Silver linings
1.My 11 year old daughter was initially annoyed that I couldn't buy anything to make her a nice lunch with. She was then delighted to discover that the only food I had left in the house was candy. Usually, she is only allowed to have candy on birthdays, Christmas...
2. Since I didn't get to spend any of yesterdays budget that I assign per day for food, I got to spend double today. And, I found the excuse to eat candy all day yesterday nice too.
Reply to this When I read your cloud/silver lining I immediately thought of my day in Gibraltar. The cable car to the top was closed and they had no idea of when it would be open. I am not a big fan of organized tours, so really only wanted to take the cable car and do it myself. After a good black cloud temper tantrum, I decided to go ahead and take a taxi tour.
What a great silver lining it was. The driver had peanuts to lure the apes on our shoulders for photos, took us to some great scenic points I would have missed and drove us to places I would have missed on my own. In hindsight it really was a silver lining. Had I wallowed in my temper tantrum all day I would have missed out on a great day. If you want a laugh at how irritated I was, you can read the blog here. Even now I can see myself stomping away from the cable car terminal.

I have an expensive emergency to sort, about my apartment, located in Dublin.
Silver lining
I now have an excuse to fly to Dublin. As well as dealing with the emergency, I can visit some of my favourite haunts in Dublin, while I am there.
Reply to this I've repeatedly encountered attractions whose hours are very different to what is in guidebooks, places that closed, and transport problems. Almost every time, I ended up finding something else just as interesting and often better. The forced serendipity became a real travel delight.
