If available at your hotel, would you use a service that enabled you to print custom postcards using your digital photos?

I would love to send family and friends postcards of my travels with pictures that I took. I'm thinking of starting a business to do this. You could choose whatever caption. I would use 4" x 6" glossy photo paper with regular paper backs. I was wondering if anyone else would like this service available at their hotel?

The cost would range from 2 for $5.00 to 10 for $15. (Paper and inks are quite expensive.) Reply to this

I think I'd be willing to use a service like that. And the prices sound resonable. I love postcards in general.... Reply to this

That sounds amazing. There were so many moments I wanted to send photos as postcards because I felt what I shot was far superior to anything postcards in a shop--however, this sounds like a difficult business venture. Would you be in touch with hotels and then have them put the device in the room? Or would this be something available at the front desk only? Reply to this

I'd want some sort of protective coating on the card, but it IS a good idea. Might want to add the ability to just use someone's local shot as default, in case the person wanted a "real" picture but didn't have a digital cam.

Heck, while I'm tossing ideas out, you could also have a green screen (blue world) backdrop available and superimpose the person's local image onto that locally taken picture digitally, just in case. I've seen it done convincingly that way, as the backdrop is a specific identifiable color so it's easy to knock out JUST that color and then ... well, if you're considering offering this up, you probably already know how it works.😊

I think the price is a little steep, but that also depends on where you'd be locating the things.

Good idea. Good luck with it! Reply to this

You're on top of it. I've sent several postcards to myself and family and quickly realized that I needed to waterproof the cards. I spray them with a water protectant that dries within 30 seconds and it seems to do the trick.

I thought of superimposing people into scenes, but that takes a lot of time. I've changed pricing to a $3.50 set-up fee per shot (copying, cropping, easy fixes and adding the caption) and then $1.50 per card after that. Some people wanted 5 different shots and expect to pay a 5 for $10 price. With my time included, that wouldn't pay for itself. Actually, I've been taking some people's photos at their resorts and they enjoy having that.

I've been working with hotel managers and getting them to have something at the concierge's desk. I've gotten into some nice resorts. I'm hoping word of mouth will carry the idea of the service to more potential customers.

Thanks for the feedback!
