The Inka Trail; it is one of the shortest and most accessible treks you can take while in Cusco. It is a really exciting experience for getting Machupicchu after 3 or 4 days of hiking in the High Andean Mountains and the beginning of the Amazonian Jungle. You will be crossing ancient Inka Towns and walk over the original cobbled path. This is also a great opportunity for appreciating the natural environment of the different ecological levels of the Inka Trail.
I recommend: Backpack, Sleeping bag, warm clothes, flash light , wool socks, sunscreen: sun hat, woolen hat for night, insect repellent, rain poncho, toiletries /paper, gloves / scarf, water purifying tablets, personal medical kit, water bottle, isic strudent card if applicable.
Extra money you need to take at least 150.00 soles extra emergency money as there are no ATM´s in Aguas Calientes and higher commission on Travellers Checks.

Reply to this walking over the (original) cobbled path?? my understanding, after doing the four day trek, is that only a small portion is actually original, so to suggest otherwise is simply bad advertising! this is not to say it isn't worth it. i thought it was worth every minute, but being mislead about the authenticity is frustrating.......... and don't spend the extra night in Aguas Calientes... the hot springs are dirty and smell like urine, and the town is extremely boring!
Reply to this Hm...I think about half of the trail is actually original. Seem to remember that it was after Dead Woman Pass or the next pass that the original path started. That's what our guide (done the trail more than 600 times) at SAS told us anyway.
