You might want to check out WWOOF.org. It is willing workers on organic farms. The title is a little misleading, it's not very hard work and it's not all farms. Here's how it works:
You provide the host with 4 hours of work 5 days a week, jobs include cooking, cleaning gardening, ect, you can also find very specific placements for your skills. The host provides you with all meals, a room and activities with the family. I did this 2 years ago and it was an amazing experience.
