Whats your perfect holiday?
12 years ago, November 6th 2011 No: 1 Msg: #146521
When people ask me to recommend places or hotels i find it more and more difficult as i know full well what i find the 'perfect' location or hotel is not necessarily what the next person finds perfect. So out of interest, what would be your 'perfect' holiday?

Perfect to us would be a 4 or 5 star hotel, in a tropical location, with amazing swimming pools that includes a swim up pool bar and a toddler pool. It has to be central to everything...a very quick walk to lots of cheap restarants and eateries, child friendly bars and some activities to do if we so desire... a beach, mini golf, a theme park, rainforrests, cathedrals, tourist attractions, museums animals...something!!!! it also turns out we like other people to be at the same destinations so we can people watch, the kids can make friends and there is an atmosphere in the place. One without tourists 😊

Im a sort of robin caruso/jacques cousteau type of girl. I like remote islands, the remoter the better, if I see a dive island that is almost impossible to get to then it makes me want to get there even more. As much as I whine about 40 hour transits...it doesnt stop me from finding somewhere more and more remote.

Now I know my leg can take it ive just booked Bangka, Ganga and Lembeh in 8 weeks (ALI stop posting your amazing pics, your blog convinced me while im a wall girl not really a muck diver I couldnt get so close to Lembeh at Bangka and not check it out!)

I will say my travel style has changed a wee bit since meeting giant. This trip he will come along and for that reason Ive booked a couple of days on the mainland for chill out no dive time to do some land based exploring and even nothing days.

While im happy to go two or three star with dive resorts Giant does like his creature comforts so will be going a bit more upmarket with the accom.

If im not on a designated diving trip and a general holiday I will go for 4 or 5 star hotels at places like Railay Beach but I definately do not sit at the hotel pool bar every day. I like to explore jungles, hotsprings, temples, ancient burial sites like the skull caves in PNG and am looking forward to Waruga in Minahassa. Also very into nature and finding wierd animals or even one particular elephant (Sambo in Phnom Penh) and I have a bit of a waterfall fetish.

Our perfect holiday changes from time to time depending on our mood and how busy we have been at work. There are times we want to be sequestered on a dive island to enjoy the quiet and beauty, times we want the action of a city or new country full of exploration and times we want to go the 4 or 5 star hotel route. We are very versatile in our types of travel.

We love meeting new people. It enhances the travel experience for both of us. We prefer talking with locals but can be very happy chatting with fellow travelers about life and their adventures. It is always a great way to gain information on where we might like to go next.
