Hey

I've just had a quick look at your status and it appears you are American? Do you have a European passport? This will affect your ability to work in Europe. Within the Schengen zone, companies can't give jobs to people from outside the EU that could be given to someone from within the EU. This means that they can't get the paperwork to employ you.

Outside the Schengen zone you may have more luck, although the companies still have to apply for visas/paperwork for those without EU passports, so would often rather employ people with paperwork.

If you have an EU passport then you will be ok, although the current economic climate makes Europe poorly paid and hard work for an English teacher. You are looking to make enough to live, but not much more.

If you are investigating the best places to go with your TEFL certificate, I would personally look towards Asia if you need/want money.

Hope this helps

Thanks Kris and Kate, actually I would be more so looking at countries not in the EU currently, and even in the EU countries I could be sponsored by the school as in most every country, just a work visa would be needed. I am trying to get info on a lot of places including asia and Europe at the moment. Just trying to gauge my prospects. thanks so much for taking the time to give some insight! I really appreciate it guys!

Hey

My point is that without an EU passport, unfortunately you cannot get a work visa as an English teacher. Schools cannot sponsor you unless they can prove that you can do something that an EU person cannot do - and as an English teacher they cannot prove that there isn't a British, Irish or advanced level English speaker from with an EU passport that they cannot employ in your place.

The issue outside the Schengen zone is that teachers with an EU passport can work there without the schools needing to go through sponsorship and all the paperwork that involves, so they would rather employ them.
