Trekking in Sierra Maestra (Cuba) - Pico Turquino trail, November '11

I plan 2-3 weeks low budget escapade in Cuba this year (16th November - 3rd December) all the way down to Santiago de Cuba, including 3/4 days trekking in Sierra Maestra (Pico Turquino / Pico de Cuba trail to Las Cuevas).

Hiya

I plan 2-3 weeks low budget escapade in Cuba this year (16th November - 3rd December) all the way down to Santiago de Cuba, including 3/4 days trekking in Sierra Maestra (Pico Turquino / Pico de Cuba trail to Las Cuevas).
Just wonder now if anyone has recently done this, so I could gather some useful info regarding the accomodation, logistics & arrangements necessary to organize it in Bayamo / Villa Santo Domingo?
Any advice & suggestions are very welcomed 😊

Cheers,

Hi Damian, I did the trek to Pico Turquino a couple of years ago, but I came back down the same way I went up, instead of continuing to Las Cuevas. The trek you are thinking of would be even better than the one I did I think. Anyway, I wrote a blog about it which contains some useful information - http://cuba-turquino.blogspot.com.au/. I hope that helps. Cheers! John Reply to this

In response to: Msg #184384 John, that's a great post. I did the Pico in one day in 2009 but really didn't blog it.
I'll be back there in early April to do the hike in two days, staying at Refugio Joaquin.
It's just fantastic terrain, not unlike many areas of Australia.
Your post more than covers all aspects of that hike. Reply to this
