Good question, Peet! I made a discussion thread especially for it.
The cities I like to visit again and again are the major capitals. They are great places to hang out for a while, to get a break from heavy travelling because they have lots of cafes, bars, places to hang out... As, well as that, there tends to be more freedom and openmindedness in those types of cities, and it can be good to get a break from certain customs and expectations. And, you always meet people in these huge cities. Places like Mumbai, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Berlin, London...

Reply to this Cities I'd wish to visit would always be those that rank as my favourites - so Madrid, Paris, Sana'a and Singapore would be my favourite cities, so they all make the list. Would need to add Prague, Rome and Kyoto due to the large volume of places to see and explore.
Reply to this Speaking of cities, if anyone has visited both of the following, it would be great to get your opinion. I wish, I posted this question sooner, to give more time for responses, but it only occurred to me today, that Ankara might have more going for it, than I think.
Istanbul or Ankara? Reply to this I try to follow rail. When we follow the rail we never fall down. It means that I hate broad-gauged rail in Eastern Europe and prefer West Cities. My favorite is London with beautiful shops a lovely restaurants ... best selection is at <snip>

Gosh, this is like asking which child is your favorite---- we love them all for different reasons
Paris, Athens, San Francisco and NYC would top our list.
Reply to this Rome for its history, love of life, and good food.
Paris for its art and culture.
London for its history and the theater scene.
San Francisco and Sydney for their setting on the bays.
Shanghai for its dynamism and its focus on the future.
Bangkok for its assault on all the senses, from the crazy mix of quiet sois and temples and chaotic streets and shopping malls, to the smells of flowers, food, and open sewers.
