Im new to the site and would like to say hello to all! Me and my girlfriend are planning to go to Honduras this winter and I was wondering if anybody could help me out with some info? We are not into really touristy stuff but would like to do some diving. My girl needs to complete her certification with her open water dives any suggestions on a dive shop? Whens the rainy season? Wheres a good place to do some sick kayaking? Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Reply to this

Can't recommend a specific dive shop - but take a look at Utila in the Bay of Islands, Honduras. The island is full of dive shops, I did my first dive with Captain Morgan's - but that was over 4 years ago and things change. The diving off Utila was good - I'm told that things have deteriorated a little - but it's the quality of instruction that counts when learning.

If you have any diving experience then find out about these things:

Look for good equipment.
Check that the staff have an emergency action plan and know where things like oxygen are - hopefully on the boat!
Use price as a guide - don't go for a shop that is clearly undercutting all the rest to start a price war!
Try to meet the instructor - your girlfriend will be spending the next four days with him/her - it helps to make sure they get on a little.

Sea kayaking? - not sick-kayaking 😉 - I know very little about this here - anyone?

Try Roatan too if you can.....West Bay, or West End

Dont pre-book any course, becaus ethings do change, and lots of the time the divemasters are not the same.

Just go down the strip, and look around untill you find a decent shop, with good equipment.

Also you should know that if any place offers the open water for under $200 not to go. There is regualtions on the price of diving, and if a shop os offering it for less, they are not obeying rules and regualtions, therefore they might not obey the saftey rules and regualtions.
