Advice on hotel reservations in Guatemala City and Antigua during the New Year

I will travel to Guatemala right after this Christmas and stay there for 2 weeks. My plan is to fly into Guatemala City, stay there overnight, board a bus the next day to Antigua, hang around Antiqua for a couple days before heading eastward to visit Indian ruins. According to a travel book, hotel reservations are needed during Christmas and New Year because many Guatemalans travel during these holidays themselves. I just want someone who has been there during this time of the year to confirm the accuracy of this information. Your information and advice are very much appreciated. Reply to this

Hey, when you fly into Guatemala City you should have a place to stay booked because they can pick you up from the airport and help you book a shuttle or flight out of there (the bus station is in the most dangerous part of the city)
we stayed at Dos Lunas (its in lonely planet or google it) and they picked us up from the airport and booked a flight to the ruins for us (also a cab is only 20 bucks to antigua from guatemala city)
there are lots of hotels everywhere you go, for sure book ahead if you want to stay in Tikal where the ruins are. (dos lunas staff are really nice theyd probably help you book it when you get there)
