Hello. My friend and I are planning a vacation for 2 weeks around New Year's to go to Central American. We're just not sure which country to visit. So far, it looks like Belize offers a ton of stuff to do for the amount of time that we have. If you were to go to one country in Central America, would this be it? Or would you suggest Guatemala or maybe Costa Rica? Thanks for your help.
Reply to this I've only been to Costa Rica and Panama in Central America, although I know some things about Nicaragua too. Of those, I would say definitely Costa Rica, don't go to Panama and maybe Nicaragua...but Costa Rica by far wins the race. It depends what type of trip you have in mind - if it's hiking and ecological stuff you're after, then Costa Rica without a doubt. The diving in Belize is supposed to be incredible. I wouldn't suggest Guatemala at all - it's quite dodgy for tourists, from what my Central American friends tell me!
Reply to this Me and my girlfriend spent 2 weeks in Belize last year. It was a blast. First its an english speaking country, fairly cheap and pretty safe. There is alot of cool islands to dive and the rainforest is amazing. We rented a car and drove everywhere. We even crossed the boarder into guatamala. Tikal was a highlight of the trip. Costa rica is also pretty cool.
Reply to this I've been to Guatemala, east coast of Mexico, Belize & Cuba. Ignore what people tell you about Guatemala being too dangerous to visit. I travelled with 2 friends (girl & guy) and it was amazing. Obvioulsy take the necessary precautions...i.e. be careful at night when walking home, don't travel at night etc. But, to miss Guatemala would be a loss. Also, go to Cuba before Fidel dies....it is an amazing place of culture and contradictions.
