Was just wondering if anyone can advice on how to get from Cuenca to Punta Sal by bus. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. We're studying Spanish in Cuenca, however we're still on a very basic level making it very difficult for us to find travel information here. Any one knows any websites where we can may be find bus information, preferably in English, and maybe even buy tickets?

Also anything that I might need to know about traveling by bus across S. America? How safe is it? How comfortable is it? Do they stop for lunch, toilets ect? Does temperature on buses go to extremes- too hot or too cold? In Asia buses from my experience are extremely cold, I always had to put on lots of clothes when traveling, is this something to expect here too? This is one of my main concerns, as I'm extremely sensitive to cold.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

Are you talking about Cuenca in Panama? where is Punta Sal. I do not know the specific places you are mentioning so I will answer in a general manner.

Busses vary around South America in their comfort and service level. Depends on the rout and company offering the service. Toilets and food - believe it or not, South American people also need these services, thus if toilets are not available on bus they will stop. In most long distances buses we had, there were toilets (with very few eceptions in Bolivia). In some buses food was served on board, in others there were many sellers of all kind of street food coming to visit us on the bus and in others there were stops - depend on the country culture.
It can definitly get cold on the buses! especially on night buses or if the road is through the mountains. We were using many times kind of blankets and other people were using sleepign bags or coats.
