Fiji - should I make advanced reservations?

We will be heading to Fiji in the late spring. Is is good to make reservations for day island cruises ahead of time or just wait till I get there? If you have any recommendations on day cruise companies you\'ve had good experiences I would appreciate your suggestions. Also on what island to go to...mainly for snorkling and great beaches.
