Hello ! I am heading out on a world journey, starting in NZ, then to oz for a year, then to south asia and finally europe. Any advice or travel sights that I must see, or to meet an adventurous canadian for a beer, I would love to hear from you !
Heading to Auckland first...don't know how long...as I am a day to day traveller. Any suggestions where to hang low and get over my jetlag, spend the first few nights checking out the city ?
Reply to this hey there - sounds like a great trip! I've never been to NZ but can help you out with all things Australian. I would recommend (as everyone does) a trip down the east coast covering must-see places like Cape Tribulation, Port Douglas, Mission Beach, The Whitsundays, Byron Bay, and then of course on to Sydney (or wherever you want to base yourself for a year). Must sees in Victoria are of course Melbourne and a trip along The Great Ocean Road (maybe stay in a caravan in beautiful beachside towns of Lorne or Apollo Bay). The west coast of Australia is also stunning - and a lot of travellers don't give it the credit that it's due! If you are interested in working (which I'm guessing you are as you will be there for a year) a good website for backpackers/working travellers is Jobaroo (www.jobaroo.com) - it's got visa information and job postings for both temp, casual and permanent jobs all over Australia. Good luck!
