"Len Wilson, a history teacher at Auckland Girls Grammar, was one of perhaps 2000 Westerners allowed into the 'hermit kingdom' of North Korea this year. Len will show slides of his trip and provide a balanced account of this troubled and surprising nation, where the internet and mobile phones are virtually non-existent and where obeisance to the state is absolute."

We know one or two TBers who also went ;-)
Reply to this Would have if I'd been in Auckland - left for Tokyo on the 3rd, so just missed out.
Reply to this It would have been interesting to hear his comments and to compare his experiences to mine. Mobile phones do exist in the country and are not uncommon as our guide and party officials both had them (and so did other guides I saw) but they are denied to the general populace. There is one public Internet computer in the whole country, and only privileged people (or foreign embassy staff) can have such access in private buildings.
