Hey all just trying to find a way to Puerto Escondido from Mexico City. We are travelling with a few boards so flying will be hard. Has anyone got any good ideas?? Bus is probably the only other option. What are the buses like and is it a long trip from Mexico city. Thanks
Reply to this I have been to Mexico and buses there arent really good. I wouldn't recommend public transportation
Reply to this Thanks for that. By any chance did you fly anywhere domestically around Mexico? If so are they pretty knarly with excess baggage? Flyings probably going to be the go but we have quite a few surfboards with us so could be a problem.
Reply to this no, sorry. I just went to Puerto Vallarta. I did not fly domestically.
Reply to this i took 1st class buses throughout mexico-- they are modern motorcoaches with lounging seats, a/c and movies playing, and you could maybe store boards in the cargo area on the bottom of the bus. i have also flown from df to oaxaca city, which is another option, then you can hop on another (overnight) bus or colectivo/or hire a driver (there's a street in the southwest part of town that has a few driving companies) to take you the rest of the way to the coast-- it's about 6 hours on a windy mountain road. see: http://www.oaxacamio.com/pto/howtoarrive.htm
Reply to this Hey,
This post comes very late, I know. But could be helpful for others that are doing the same trip: I travelled in Mexico in 2007. The bus system works very well in Mexico compared to other countries in central america. I cannot complain at all! I travelled from Mexico City to Puerto Escondido by public bus. Of course it is a long ride (around12 hours), but if you are young and dont mind adventure than you are just fine.
Another option is flying from Mex City to Pto. Escondido which I did! It is easy. It kind of works like booking at the counter. You just go the airport and ask when the next flight is leaving and then you book (on space availability)!
To me Pto. is one of the best spots in Mexico, must seen for sure!!!!
