Visa requirements for Bolivia

What do I need to travel into Bolivia?

My girlfriend and I are traveling into peru for a few weeks in August but we would like to cross the border into Bolivia to visit the salt flats. We are US citizens and I know that we need a visa but a few of the requirements are confusing me.

It says that I need a
"round trip ticket or confirmed itinerary", what do I need to satisfy this? I won't have my ticket for a bus back into Peru purchased yet but will a copy of my flight home that is leaving from Peru will this do the trick?

"copy of a hotel confirmation" I have not and did not plan to make hotel reservations until we arrived, any way around this?

and also mentions a "letter of invitation"? I dont think I need this because I am not staying with anyone in particular but will they need/want something to replace this requirement?

Thanks for any insight that is given.

Hey, I flew into La Paz on 6/20/10. Before I left I read that I needed a copy of my credit card, yellow fever card, $135 USD, two passport photos, a paper with information that you need to fill out (including hotel reservations, which you can get it online or at the airport), and the round trip of confirmed itinerary. I didn't know what to expect, so I brought all of those. You do not need a letter of invitation.

When I arrived to the airport they asked for my passport photo, $135, yellow fever card, and the paper with information. I had to fill out my itinerary within Bolivia on the paper. They really did not look at it too closely.

I was really nervous about this process because I too was confused, as I read a lot of different information, but I really don't think you will have a problem. I would recommend writing something tentative down on the paper, though.

Have fun in Bolivia!! I had a blast when I was there. Reply to this
