I'm wondering what will be the best type of luggage bag/backpack for my things while traveling through Central America trip? I've read about the typical backpack being too touristy looking, so are there any alternatives?
Planning my trip next month from Guatemala down to Panama. I've read "touristy" looking backpacks can make yourself a target, so can anyone recommend or tell me what I should be looking to use to carry my things?
Reply to this Hello Chris 😊
To look the least touristy, try the expat look. ie no daypack, no camera hanging around your neck, no guidebook and maps in view of everybody while you are walking around... You could travel light and just put your stuff in the type of bag you would carry around with you in your own home town, city...

Reply to this one idea is a 3 bag combo
1. main wheeled duffle for clothes & washbag
2. daypack for stuff you prefer not to do without if the airline loses your luggage, such as book, medication, camera charger.. jacket!
(air france forgot my luggage on the way to cuba , and i was lucky all i really needed to buy were a few tshirts & shampoo while i waited for it)
3. sling bag* for daily use, to bring book around town or towel & sun glasses to the beach.
*sling bag is a one strap daypack, handy because its cheap and common looking, you can have it on your back, slip it under your arm or on your front depending on where you are, all without taking it off. then it just goes inside the duffle bag when moving about. you should be able to buy one of those over there.
Reply to this Thanks for the tips- I finally got my itinerary together so I'm ready to start shopping around. I learned my lesson last time I went to Costa Rica, I'm going to pack light this time!
