A little advice please?

I'm going to be working and traeling through South America, and Central America, in April 2010. I'm really after some suggestions on how to do this.

I'm just finishing up teaching English in Korea, and have been planning to travel and work from Argentina, all the way up to San Diego. Time is a non issue, i'm thinking it'll take as long as it takes, and that i can always top up the accounts through teaching english.

I'd love some suggestions on airfare, i need to fly from Seoul, to london, and then from there to South America.

I speak no Spanish (but am keen on intensive language classes.) so would appreciate suggestions on locations and courses to take. Have to say price could be an issue.

I'm very keen to do alot of voluntary work, ranging from Teaching english, building things and working with street children to conservation. suggestions welcome. I'm not in the position to pay hundreds of dolars to volunteer, so cheap or free would be great.

So in a nut shell, contacts, advice in any form would be much appreciated. Also suggestions on how to travel whilst in Latin America, and what are the must things to see and do? Reply to this

Hi Phil, there are numerous Spanish schools throughout Latin America and if you're starting in Argentina I'd suggest doing your studies there. We studied Spanish in Guatemala for 8 weeks and I would recommend doing an intensive course and living with a family. Not only do you get to practice your Spanish with them but it gives you an insite into the way locals live.

It may also be worth looking into round-the-world tickets. An alliance like oneworld flies to all your destinations and you may get a better deal booking it all together rather than booking the flights separately.

For volunteering there are so many different options that it may be worth your while trying to choose a destination or a specific type of volunteering. You may also be able to find a Spanish school which does volunteer work as well. I would get on the internet and research possibilities.

And in terms of things to see and do, Latin America is packed. There are the obvious sights like Machu Picchu and there are jungles, cities, deserts, volcanoes, beaches and more. It depends what you're in to and also on your budget.

Thanks Lara, this really does help

I've looked into Guatemala, there are some really good volunteering projects, that also provide Spanish lessons as well as volunteering. Pretty sure i'm changing my mind and am now looking to start there and head south.
