Suggestions on gear to take.
14 years ago, November 30th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #94769
Hey everyone,
My girlfriend and I are heading to Peru next August and i am shopping for a jacket for her to take. I talked to a friend that trekked the Pacific Coast Trail in the US and she suggested a synthetic jacket of some sort that is light weight and waterproof but I thought I would ask anyone on here if they had any jackets that they used and would recommend for the trip? How warm of a jacket are we going to need in Aug? Is there a lot of rain that time of the year?

Thanks and happy holidays Reply to this

Hello Ryan 😊

I would take layered clothes for visiting S. America. The temperatures can vary a lot, depending on the altitude. I think a windbreaker, waterproof type jacket that folds up small would be ideal. I dont think the brand name matters much.

Rain in August in Peru: I think the best way to find out about rain and temperature in any country is to Google Average Annual Temperatures and Rainfall, and the name of the nearest city to where you are going, and a bunch of sites will come up giving this information. Also, some of them give weather forecasts, which can be useful.

For a closer approach on Peruvian weather you might try link to http://www.senamhi.gob.pe/ (Peru's official weather forecast office). Although is not in English (yet) and temperatures are in centigrade scale, the weather information is easy to understand by the map and the symbols very much like Google's T & R and the Weather's Channel. Here a couple of sites where you can also see what is weather like by location un Peru...
