from guatemala to belize

Hi. in 2 or 3 days we're going from Guatemala to Belize but still are not sure how to get there... It's possible by boat! But isn't it dangerous? Is there smb who made this kind of trip?

you can cross the order up near the Tikal ruins/park - I think its called Cayo on the Belize side, Melchor de Mencos on the other.
We did it 10 years ago without a guide book and didnt find it a problem as ther is only one road you can follow around there!
