I am looking to rent? a car for 4 months to travel through patagoina. Looking for tips on economical way to do this, starting and returning to Beunos Aries. ie, discount rental co., leasing options? buy then sell (need somthing reliable$?) so far the best quote is $3500 arg. pesos/month inclu. VAT and bad insurance.

Reply to this Whatever way you do it, it will be horribly expensive. It is far better to take the good buses or fly from place to place and rent a car to explore a specific area. I know a lot of people like the idea of driving Ruta 40 but you could be spending the time doing and seeing better things.
You mention staying 4 months but at some point you will need to extend the 3 months you are originally allowed as a tourist or cross a border and return. If you are thinking of taking the car into Chile for part of your Patagonia trip, you won't be able to cross the border with it unless you have the specific papers from the rental company. These add to the cost and take some days to process.
Reply to this Thanks for the info, however cause of the nature of the trip, I am bringing a pile of equipment, and fairly certain that I need car. have not herd of Ruta 40, is that somwere buses do't go? Traveling into chile is necessary. I was inquiring to find out the most economic alternatives for acquiring a vehicle for 4 months.
