Quick Stint in Europe - from Zurich

Travel through Europe from Zurich. Suggestions?

I'm an Australian girl (whose applicable for a British passport if that matters) and I've just booked myself an around the world ticket (mainly for travel to Africa - it's cheaper for an RTW than to travel to Africa directly :P). The ticket has a compulsory stopover in Europe; Zurich to be exact and I've decided that since I've come all that way - I need to see some of it!

I plan to spend a couple of days in Zurich - to get myself into the timezone, rest after a big flight and just enjoy my own pace again having a little bit of a wonder in the city. However, I've heard that Switzerland is SO expensive for accomodation etc and to be honest, i've never really had a strong interest in Switzerland so onward I go!

I've already decided to have a week in London, a week in Paris and I'm looking at one more place to round it off. My RTW ticket allows me to book more flights to Europe quite cheap but am looking into Eurail as well so can get there on either of these routes!

I'm looking for suggestions for cities where I can do my own thing, and fall in love with a place. I don't want to go somewhere just to say that i've been and if I never come back at least I can say I've been there - I'm looking for somewhere that'll give me a teaser and make me say "I wanna come back here". I'm not really a big partier and I'll be 21 at the time and I'd like it to have a different culture from Zurich, London and Paris while still being nearby and somewhere that I can spend a week in the city with enough to do (on a reasonable budget - I realise it's still going to be more expensive than Africa!). Oh and I've already decided that I'm leaving Italy until I can do it properly (I just have a thing with Italy) so no Italy.

Thanks guys; fire away! Reply to this

Hello Krystie 😊

To get away from major cities and popular tourist places, someplace like Naples, Italy may be worth spending some time in. Some will say, dont bother with such a crime ridden and run down place, but I have been there twice and enjoyed it. I did need to be careful because of the crime, but I got to enjoy what it feels like to be in an Italian town with not so many tourists. As well as that, it is just a short regional train ride from Pompeii. I think you might also easily be able to get to the Amalfi coast from Naples.
