Getting into Ecuador

Any trouble entering Ecuador without a return plane ticket?

Hi there,

I will be going to Ecuador on 1 November on a one way ticket as I want to take the bus to travel around from there. My next plane ticket is an internal flight in Brazil more than 90 days later. Will this cause problems for getting into Ecuador?

Thank you,
Mackin. Reply to this

Officially they often say you need proof of an onward flight (or proof of sufficient funds) but I've been to Ecuador three times and never been asked for anything. I can't imagine it would be a problem if you just explain you'll be travelling overland. Have fun! Reply to this

Thanks for letting me know Katherine, it only hit me after I had booked the flights so I just wanted to see what others thought. You've put my mind at ease!

All the best,
Mackin.

Hello Paul 😊

I dont remember ever being asked by immigration people in S America to show an exit ticket. In fact, I dont get asked for one entering any country. The airlines however are a different thing. They often want to see visas and return plane tickets before I get on the flights. I would have the Brazil flight ticket ready to show them and explain that you intend to travel overland to Brazil. That will likely satisify them.

Hi Mel,

Thanks for the advice, I never thought of the airlines being an issue. I'll have the Brazil flights ready to hit them with!
