Hi travellers!!! I am planning to travel round Asia, in the Trans Siberian Railway. My quest is, if it is better to arrange the tour with an agency before starting the trip or just go to Russia and book by myself the ticket in the Railway Station?

Thanx for your help!!!

Hello Federico 😊

I would be less expensive to buy the tickets on you own. It is the least expensive if you buy the individual tickets for each countries and then walk accross the borders.

Here is a thread which may interest you.

Hey there, I'm doing the same thing in Febuary this year. I'm just wondering if it is actually possible to book the tickets with relative ease in Russia without speaking any Russian?! THis is why I'm starting to think of booking via tour guides. I would love to here from someone who ahs actually done what I am planning to do!

Also wondering how people went about obtaining their Russian visa?!

Thanks

Hi Federico and Edd i done the trans Mongolian from Beijing to Moscow in July 09 and would highly recommend it. I would also recommend that you book the trip as you go and don't use any agencies. Booking it as you go allows you to pick and choose where you stay and for how long and saves you an absoloute fortune my whole train trip from Beijing to Moscow at the height of the season cost me only £440:00 Also spend some time looking at the various embassies websites to check out the availabillity of visas in other countries a good example of this is that i bought my visa for China in Bangkok and saved £130:00 on that visa alone and bought a visa for Russia in Beijing again saving £80:00 on what the same visa would have cost me to buy in London. Doing it that way also allowed me more choice about how long i stayed in each country.
enjoy the journey
