Hi, Im travelling to Peru and Colombia starting on the 10th of november.

Ive worked out an itinerary for Peru and im wondering if you think there are places on the itinerary that we should cut some time off and add to other places? We are interested in seeing the jungle/rainforest, markets, parties, bike rides...

Arive in Lima (2 days) > fly to Cusco (2 days to acclimatize) > Inca Trail (4 days) > back to Cusco (3 days so we can party) > day bus to Puno (stay for 3 days) > night bus to Cusco to take a flight to Lima, connecting flight up to Iquitos (stay 3 days) > Boat from Iquitos to Leticia > Leticia (1 day) > Fly to Bogota.

I havent worked out the Colombia part yet, just interested in peoples thoughts on the Peru part. We have 35 days in total (this includes Colombia), but with this plan we probably wont have time to head up to Cartegena. If we cut out Puno we would though. Or maybe we should sway Puno with Arequipa?

Which is more worth the time?

Cheers!

I would cut out Puno. Arequipa is far nicer. Reply to this

your peru iternerary looks pretty good me, you certainly hit the major tourist parts. i would seriously consider taking out puno and arequipa to maximize time in colombia. cartagena itself is not thaaaat great, but it is a lauch point to some amazing beaches, as is santa marta to the east. depending on your interests, i guess. but tayrona national park near santa marta is a must see, in my book. huaraz is one of my favorite cities in peru, but difficult to work into a short trip... Hi,

I definately agree with cutting out Puno and going to Arequipa. Puno is very run down and dirty. The only reason to go there is to see the floating islands on lake titicaca, and you really wont want to stay for 3 days. Arequipa is a very beautiful city, arguably the nicest in Peru. There are lots of artesenal markets and shops where you can buy very cheap presents or Peruvian gifts. If you dont stay there too long you could also visit the Nazca lines and the oasis and sand dunes (for sand boarding) in Huacachina, Ica on your way back to Lima. They would only take another 2 days of your time to visit.

Iquitos is an incredible place to visit and a perfect place to see the Amazon Jungle. If you really want to see everything whilst in Iquitos you may need more than 3 days though.

You may not want 2 days in Lima as well. Its a huge city with not a lot of interesting things to do in comparison with the rest of Peru. You could always head straight to Cusco and party right away. If you can spare the time, the 3 day rafting trips in Cusco are so much fun. One of the best adventure trips I could recommend in South America.

Good luck. Reply to this
