Advice for Santiago area

I'm looking for advice on places to stay and things to do/see in the Santiago area in December.

I'm going to be in the Santiago area for a week over the Christmas Holiday. I'm looking for a nice, but reasonably priced place to stay, as well as any suggestions on places to go and day trips to other nearby areas.
Thanks! Reply to this

Have a look through here to get a feel for the city:

Day trips to the coast take 1.5-2 hours but you have to watch for full buses around Christmas. If you want to stay on the coast for part of your visit, book early. Reply to this

if your willing to sleep in a dormitory then you might like la "casa roja" in barrio brasil. its a big hostel with a swimming pool out the back, perfect for the december heat. also barrio brasil is a lovely neighourhood to have an afternoon coffee. its crucial to book that hostel ahead.. so have a search for their website.

outside santiago, valparaiso is definitly worth a visit, a town full of character and incredible graffiti.

you shouldnt miss "cerro san cristobal" . the huge hill in the middle of santiago, you can get a cable car up the hill and take in the amazing views.

and for a real chilean experience , also go to "mercado central" for lunch

then some evening look for a bar called "la piojera" and get yourself a pint of "terremoto"

for the (20 to 30 somethings) nightlife you can also check out "pio nono street" in barrio brasil and further afield you have the area called "providencia" which is host to some of the posher nighclubs.

The Hotel Torre mayor is in Providencia district , is a good location, residential and commercial place, very calm, with many green areas, underground train, near restaurants “Aquí esta coco“ http://www.aquiestacoco.cl/english.htm is a excellent restaurant of seafood. , A good company that can help it with transfer and trips by the city are www.enaturchile.com a visit interesting is to the vineyards “Concha y Toro”. The old part of the city is an interesting place with constructions of century XVII, where is the Government House, Mercado Central is a place where the fruits and seafood of country are commercialized, there are good restaurants of seafood and they are not expensive and of very good quality. Near this place this La "Plaza de Armas" it has a really beautiful Cathedral the new part of city is: the state of "Las Condes" and "Apoquindo", a good sector of these states is AV. El bosque and the "pueblito Los Dominicos" that are a place of craftsmen. Santiago is a safe cleaning and very organized city. worthy to be visited. Excuse my English is not very good I hope to have been able to help Reply to this
