So, I'm going to Australia as part of the RTW trip I've just booked. Have been told by countless people that I absolutely have to do the West Coast as well as the East. So I'm flying from Singapore into Perth and out of Sydney to Christchurch, and how I get from west to east is up to me. I absolutely love travelling on the road and driving for hours is fine, so I want to hire a camper van with others. Looking for anybody's advice about the highlights, suggested route, time it takes, and anything else you have to offer! I know I can't see everything unless I have a lot of months in which to do it, but my time is limited due to a tight budget and the fact that I've got a lot of other places on my list... Help!

Hi,

How long do you have and what is your budget? You may want to rent a car to go around Perth and down to Margaret River....than fly to Uluru...rent a car there...and after that fly to Adelaide...from there you could rent a camper van to Sydney...

It's all depend of your budget and time. You could also fly from Sydney to Cairns return and enjoy the GBR. I've been more than 10 times to Australia...never been for more than 2 weeks at a time...so best is to concentrate on what you REALY want to see...

Hope this help,

west coast is defenetly an un-tapped area for tourists, majority will go up and down the east coast from cairns to sydney or melbourne and not many get the chance to head west but its such a beautiful part of our country

nice little fast fact for you, western australia is bigger then india yet only has .01% of india's population Reply to this

Hi, thanks for your replies.

I think I can make it two months; I'm budgeting overall about £1000 a month, but am anticipating (fingers crossed) underspending slightly in India and SE Asia; I'm saving my "experiences" for New Zealand and will be on a proper backpacker budget for most things! As long as I can find some people to tag along with I'm thinking camper van hire would be the best option in financial terms, but I'm not sure how many people drive an actual loop up from Perth and all the way round to Sydney - it's a long way! Wondering about maybe flying Darwin to Cairns and then travelling down the east.

Also I'm going to be there in Feb/March and I don't know how the roads might be affected by the weather - is it usually a problem? Reply to this
