Advice needed on were to spend the last week of my Oz holiday.

I\'m flying into Sydney from the UK on May 1st, staying in Sydney for a few nights, then up to Brisbane and the whitsundays to visit family.

I\'m in two minds on what to do for my last week though, a lot of poeple have recommended Melbourne saying its a fantastic city, others have said that Melbourne will be cold and windy at the end of May and say I should carry on travelling North up to Cairns, but I\'ve heard mixed reviews on Cairns!

Any advice would be very welcome !! Reply to this

Hello Laura

Melbourne is a great city, my favourite city to visit in Australia - but the weather is bad at that time of year, and it doesn't compare well to the European cities, which have far more in terms of attractions, culture and history. Likewise, I do live in Brisbane, which is a great city to live in, but not sure there is much here for the tourist.

Personally, Cairns doesn't rock my world - but the area around Cairns is super - the Atherton Tablelands, Port Douglas, Mossman Gorge and the Daintree are all worth seeing. I think it better to stay in Port Douglas and base your travels from there.

Also, as far as cost is concerned - going from the Whitsundays to Cairns is far more economical then heading to Melbourne and then backtracking to Sydney.

Thus, I'd vote to continue your journey north. Reply to this
