Can anyone offer some advice on the best hostels/cheap hotels to stay in for the Rio Carnaval?
I have heard that Copacabana has become a little 'seedy' is Ipanema or Leblon the way forward or somewhere different altogether? Thanks
Reply to this Hi there. I live outside of Rio half of the year. The other half of the year, I live in Ohio. The Arpoador Inn would be my choice. It is the only hotel that has direct access to the beach through the restaurant. All other hotels are across the street from the beach. It is situated between Copacabana and Ipanema. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The front desk speaks English, as does some of the restaurant staff. You instantly become a little family. The price is very good for carnaval. The rooms could use some updated decorating but is very adequate, with marble and tile bathrooms. Before I lived in Brazil I always stayed there. If you stay there, tell them that Tom from the U.S. says hello! Visit their website www.arpoadorinn.com.br. P.S. One of the most famous block parties in Rio is two blocks away ( The Banda da Ipanema ) Hopes this helps.
Reply to this I know this post is late, but I am curious as to what "seedy" is. Copacabana is by far the cheapest area to get a quality apartment or hotel from my experience.
