Visiting Peru in June and need help squeezing everything in
15 years ago, March 25th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #66941
Hello, the love of my life and I will be visiting Peru June. We will be flying into Lima and looking to fly into Cusco in time for Inti Raymi festival. We also want to visit Sacsayhuaman, Sacred Valley and possibly Lake Titicaca. Of course, we will also be visiting Machu Picchu. Can you suggest a could itinerary for these places? Such as where we should go first and then next...

We have several concerns. The Peru Rail website doesn't seem to work very well. How dangerous will it be to wait to buy tickets when we are there in Cusco? Is it cheaper to buy in advance?

We are also wondering about the roads from Cusco to Puno. Are they safe? I'm a bit nervous about taking any buses on the roads in Peru. I have the Bolivian Road of Death stuck in my head.

We will be in Peru from June 18 through the 30th.

We are also hosteling at the Loki Hostels in both Cusco and Lima... Any reviews by anyone on this board? Reply to this

Hi Christina,

Welcome to TravelBlog.

I've stayed at Loki Lima and would definitely recommend it. You can arrange for one of their drivers to pick you up at the airport. They have (or I stayed in at least) a decent size dorm which had lockers. Breakfast and internet use is free. They have kitchen facilities, and even better a decent sized balcony for you to sit around in the sun.
They have a bar/TV/lounge area, but I didn't find the place too noisy.

Look for their Facebook group if you have an account.

its only around 7 hours from cusco to puno and the road is fine, nothing like the death road. ormeño bus company are good. however do not be surprised if you find the buses leaving an hour or so late in peru.. its fairly common.

Thanks for all the info! I was also wondering how do I get bleacher seats for the Into Raymi Festival and about how much do they tend to cost. Thanks so much! Reply to this

This is a little late but maybe it could help another travelers with their adventures! Don't get worried about the roads! In fact I believe you should go by train. Peru Rail trains are amazing...I went to Machu Picchu a few months ago and loved everything about the journey in this train. The lady from Peru Rail was nothing but sweet and helpful. We bought the Andean Explorer tickets and they were totally worth it. The scenery it's just amazing and you feel so comfortable admiring it from the train which it was so nice and modern, It really went beyond my expectations! I highly recommend it ! I wish PeruRail would have service to more places in Peru as it is a well run railroad. I cannot recommend the Andean Explorer enough! I hope you have a nice trip!
