The Obama administration on Thursday concluded its first round of politically charged U.N. negotiations on racism, pressing foreign governments to drop reparation demands for slavery and to desist from singling out Israel for criticism in a draft declaration to be presented at a U.N. conference in April.

If you want an humble answer....visit Robben Island in Capte Town...for those who never heard about it, it's the jail where Nelso Mandela spend years....long years...

The guides are former political prisonners...they teach you a moving experience on how to deal with bad souvenirs...and reconciliation!

I am certainly going to go on that tour, when I visit S. Africa. I want to hear what the political prisoners have to say about it all.

Apparently there are US war veterans in Vietnam also who give tours of former war sites. Tours worth going on, in my opinion.

Hi Mel,

I've lived in Vietnam for few years...and still there every month...actually will be there over the week-end.

You do have veterans coming back, not a huge scale though....I met few of them. Even met once...but that was in Europe...one of the last chopper pilot who flew out of the former US Embassy roof...

You will hear a lot of different stories...but the healing is mainly done in Vietnam....certainly on the vietnamese side, there is still a lot more work to do in South Africa...

Are there books written by the ex political prsioners in SA for sale on the tour? Autobiographies are so informative. Reply to this

I can't believe that they allow such things now. Reply to this

Well, they dont. There is a lot of contraversy about the UN conference on rascism and this is one of the issues being discussed, amongst others. Leaders of a number of countries want the the conference overview to be reworded and to have parts of it changed before they will agree to take part.

Hopefully, they will find a way to talk. I think those things on the list are more suggestions/demands from the various groups and are up for discussion, rather than being something that will certainly happen. Maybe these issues need to be brought out in the open and examined and then what should be done will hopefully become clearer. Maybe what we need is for the leaders of the various countries to show some patience. Reply to this
