Regarding Malaria - Malaria "exists throughout the year in rural areas at altitudes below 2000m. The 23 highest risk districts are concentrated in the departments of Ayacucho, Junín, Loreto, Madre de Dios and San Martin."
The recommended prevention level is Level II which means "Mosquito bite prevention plus chloroquine chemoprophylaxis." It's level IV in the Department of Loreto. You can find detailed information about prevention at the following link. Refer to page 151 for prevention levels.

Remember when dealing with malaria, prevention occurs from multiple methods employed simultaneously. Chemoprophylaxis alone should not be relied on exclusively as certain species are resistant. I recommend everybody should be aware of their surroundings. Mosquitoes concentrate during the morning and evening hours but can bite throughout the day. Repellant and comfortable clothing that reduces skin exposure can reduce your risk significantly.
Anytime a region poses a potentional for malaria, you want to do everything to prevent acquiring the vector borne disease. Treatment is more costly and if treatment is delayed, the disease may cause serious complications before you can receive adequate care.
