Many jobs? and how much?

Hello all. I have seen people asking about jobs and if work is slowing down in australia like it is in england. I\'m pretty much doing the same, SORRY!

The reason i ask is me and my girlfriend are coming to oz from england in march. We are looking for work and was wondering if there is much going. To be honest we will pretty much do anything. Although, i am a carpenter so would like to know how much carpenters are on for a day or for price of jobs. I know it is very likely that we will have to take any jobs, i am still going to look in construction first.

So my questions are pretty much- Is there still enough work? How much for carpenters? And then are there any suggestions for us. We are sydney first but will travel to other areas for work. Then at the end of our trip do the fun travelling part!!!

Again thank you all for your help! Jordan and Katie. Reply to this

You could do worse than check out the chances of work in the Northern Territory. There are labour hire companies that operate which could help you. The money is often better than you will get in the major southern cities particularly if you are prepared to work in a place that is a bit remote. Reply to this

The Australian economy contracted by 0.5% last quarter - it was announced today. However, I think the industries that are losing jobs are very specific - and most of it focused on anything related to commercial finance. Construction is one of them impacted, but I am unsure as to how much. The media is bleating on about the problems in the mining and construction industry, but the situation is not as dire in the mining industry as they say - so it could be the same with construction as well.

Sydney is definitely the most expensive city in Australia to live, so if you are going to stay there for a while, you will need a good job to make life acceptable. Having said this, it is nowhere near as bad as London in terms of trying to earn a decent living. Other large cities good for earning money are Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

If you are not too picky about jobs, you should be able to find something The economic issues here are not as bad as Europe.
