proof of leaving the country?

I'm a British Citizen and flying to Quito in June from New Zealand and don't have a flight out of Ecuador booked. Will i encounter problems at customs as i've heard you need proof of leaving the country. If so, is it possible to book a bus ticket and use that as proof?

Any help would be greatly appreciated 😊 Reply to this

hi emma,

i think booking a bus ticket may be hard as most bus companies do not take bookings over the phone, you need to be there in person with your passport. however CIFA is a good company to use if your crossing into peru. perhaps they have a website.

as for needing proof of leaving the country. i also was told the same thing by the emabssy and in the end i did not book a return, just a one way ticket) on arrival they didnt ask for anything, just stamped my passport and said "bienvenido a ecuador" (welcome to ecuador)

so if i were doing that again i would do the same..

Cool thanks for the reply - yea i reckon it's hit and miss whether they ask or not. I do have a ticket from Brazil to the UK 5 days after i arrive in Ecuador so maybe that'll work! Although i'm obviously not going to take that flight as i think 5 days to get to Brazil may not be enough time! But as far as they're concerned i could be taking an internal SA flight or something... yea i think 5 days is a bit optimistic if your going by land haha

i dont think you will have any problem being a tourist.
its more likely to be a problem for immigrants from neighbouring countries who may intend on staying for work purposes.

but if you want to feel extra sure, some airlines will take reservations without paying, and they give you a time period within which you must pay to confirm your booking. if you want to be sure you might want to check that. however i cannot say which airline to call in the case of ecuador.

best of luck! :-) Reply to this
