Hi... Going out to South America in Feb, starting in Rio for the carnival, then will be doing 6 months around South America, backpacking, staying in hostel\\\'s etc, doing the usual trips you\\\'d expect... just looking for a rough idea on how much money I would be looking to spend in 6 months?

Reply to this Hey, we're going out next year from July to December and have budgeted $1000 dollars per month, which we think will allow us to live a pretty good life! I reckon that might go up a little in places like Chile but hopefully down a little in Bolivia.
That said, it's hard to know exactly how much we're going to get for our pounds now what the pound plummeting against the dollar.
How are you/do other people manage their money whilst out there? My savings are currently in an ISA and I was thinking of setting up a direct debit to move X amount of money into my current account per month. I am a bit wary of having everything in there in case my card gets stolen or similar.
What do other people do? So much to sort out before we go!
