im not planning on doing the trek, just going to take the train.
Reply to this I got the train from Ollantaytambo as the one from Cuzco was fully booked and that was $28.50 each way, I'm afraid I can't help with the price from Cuzco (and for some reason they insisted we pay in dollars not soles.) Entry to the site was 120.50 Peruvian soles (half price for students.) Just to warn you, you have to buy the entrance tickets in Aguas Caliente - they do not sell them at the gates of Machu Picchu.
Reply to this thanks for the help everyone.
believe it or not i actually baught a tour just today.
at $200 i suppose it is expensive but includes a lot of stuff. city day tour, sacred valley day tour, and 3 day trip to machhu pichhu, all transport and 2 nights in a hotel in aguas calientes included. sounds ok to me.. i have just gotten back this minute from the city tour actually and it was fine. so fingers crossed about the rest.

Reply to this I think you were smart to just buy a package. For what you paid, it looks like you are getting a great deal. I was just there a couple months ago. You will love it.
Reply to this Hi,
The price to go to Machu Picchu depends on the category service you would like to go.
there are 3 categories:
1. Hiram Bingham: all inclusive, luxury service.
2. Vistadome Train: Is premium service. I really recommend it.
3. Backpacker: It is the basic train.
