Hey guys. I'm looking for a little guidance from anyone with any experiance of travelling through Central America.
My plan is to fly to northern Mexico then travel south to Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama then either enter SA or fly north to Canada. Is El Salvador worth making a slight detour for? I have a friend who is half El Salvadorian (and half Welsh...interesting mix), and he swears it's still a dangerous place in many areas...saying that he hasn't been back for 10 years.
But I need folks to suggest specific areas of nations. I'm looking for parts of CA that are very laid back. And where you can smoke a bit of pot without looking over your sholder - although this should be a bonus, not a requisite.
Also, any one know of any really good free/low-cost volunteering opertunities? Preferably in animal wealfare or conservation. I've a list of websites as long as my leg that suggest some, but if anyone can recomoend any that would be grand.
