Travelling alone

How safe would you consider NZ for a woman alone?

.. jaffas are a very nice cake. 😊

The company who makes them says they are not cakes. If they were cakes they would have to pay more tax so they made them small enough to be classified as cookies and not cakes. There was even a courtcase about it in England. The Jaffa people won and still do not have to pay the cake tax. I feel so knowledgable with being able to explain things like this. :D Reply to this

Kiwi 101: Hokey Pokey is vanilla ice cream with caramel lumps... Jaffa are chocolate with orange flavored shells. Pineapple Lumps are also chocolates with a chewy pineapple center and afghans are delicious cookies 😊 Reply to this

Hey Karen,

I have just spent an awesome year in NZ, travelling as much of it as possible. I would recomend it to all travellers, especially solo ones, it really has everything you could want. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions on the place. Or for things you can do, have a look at my blog TravelBlog for a years worth of travell. I never once had a problem on my own or heard of anyone having any serious incidents. hope this is useful and have a ball! Ian. Reply to this

Hi Ian,

Thank you for that. I will definitely look at your travelblog and will not be shy in approaching you with any subsequent questions that I may have......and there are bound to be plenty! I have met a few NZelanders whilst working at the hotel and they have always been lovely, in fact hearing them talk about their home is what promted me to finally get off my arse and do something about visiting. Just got to reply to that bit about the Brits and the Australians. No of course we don't hate Brits (not even when they beat us at rugby.). We'll give them a hard time, but thats's just us showing how friendly we are. And as for Australians . . . there's a bit of graffitti on a wall in town that says "You can always tell an Aussie . . . but you can't them them much". But then they make snide jokes about Kiwis and sheep, forgetting it seems that their national song, Waltzing Matilda, is about a swagman who committed an offence with a sheep. (Just so there's no unseemly inuendo here - he stole it).

On the other hand if ever a lagered-up football lout in London picks a bar fight with an Aussie he'd better be ready to fight any Kiwis as well because when the chips go down we'll always go to the aid of one of our Anzac mates. Been fighting side-by-side ever since Gallipoli against any and all comers. After all, that's what you'd expect from a mate, mate. Reply to this
