Will I have enough time?!

I want to travel from Buenos Aires to Mexico City in about 4 months - is this too little time to take in everything?

Hello,

I am flying into BA in the last week of November 2008 and would like to travel first all through Patagonia down to Ushiuia. Then go up Chile, over to Rio in time for Carnival; across Bolivia to Lake Titicaca and Cuzco/Inca Trail; then Peru, Ecuador and Columbia, and crossing over to Central America to go up to Mexico City to fly home. What I would like to know is if people think this is do-able in 4 months. I can only really stretch to 5 and a half at most. I don't want to go everywhere en route, but I don't want to feel that I'm rushing either. Also, budget is tight - I was planning on about 600 pounds per month. If I end up spending less I can go for longer, but if it will be more I'll have to rethink the plan! Please let me know if you have any idea about timing/costs for this, or any advice in general as this is my first time in South America.

Also, I'm going alone, so travel buddies at any step of the way are v v welcome!

Many thanks,

I'm just back from down almost the exact same trip and it took me 12 months. We started in BA, ended in Mexico and saw 15 countries plus Antarctica. And even 12 months wasn't enough time to see everything we wanted to see. In 5 months I'd stick to 5 or 6 countries at most, especially as travelling through all of Patagonia will take a long time, and it's one area you don't want to rush. 600 pounds is a reasonable budget I think, though one offs like flights or the Inca Trail might push you above it. Rio and Chile are probably the most expensive places, while Bolivia, Argentina, Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador and Colombia are all very good value. Reply to this
