La Paz to Santiago

Anyone know the cheapest and safest route?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning on leaving La Paz on Tues 16th Sept (could go 17th) and heading to Santiago, Chile. Does anyone know a good airline that isn't over GBP300? I read somewhere I could get a bus from La Paz to Arica and then fly to Santiago from there, but I've been on a few bolivian buses recently and don't think I could stomach another mountainous hell ride!

Has anyone done this route recently?

Hi Claire,

Believe it or not, i did this route last year totally by bus. Took me about 44 hours!!! But i had time and flighttickets were expensive. Took indeed the bus from La Paz to Arica and from there to Santiago. You can arrange your whole trip in the La Paz bus station with the chilean company (forgot the name, 1 of the big 2). I asked them thousand times whether it was possible. Both the bus from La Paz as from Arica were good. And the ride from La Paz to Arica is amazing, passing through Parque National Lauca.
